I will be teaching four workshops at Koala Conventions in Brisbane from 5th-13th July 2008. Koala Conventions is a brilliant gathering
of like minded textile queens, dabblers in fabrics and threads and fun people. The tutors are excellent as is the organisation of the

HERE ARE ROBYN ALEXANDERS' FOUR KOALA CONVENTIONS WORKSHOPS

 

SHIMMERING NIGHTS - 2 day workshop

Dates: Sat 5th & Sun 6th July 2008

Learn to create this elegant eveing bag using both machine and hand embroidery using wash away stabilizers, braids and treasured pieces of sheer and exotic fabrics and ribbons. You will make hand made cords and baubles whilst learning a variety of hand embroidery stitches also applying beads, sequins and special bits and bobs. You will finish with assembly of the bag ready for that flash night out on the town. A range of fabric colours for the base of your bag will be provided in class for your selection and is included in your kit price.

Kit Price for workshop: $118.

Skill level: some knowledge of basic machine embroidery.

Strict requirement: A well serviced sewing machine that is able to do free motion embroidery or stippling (for the quilters).

 

 

A STITCH IN TIME - 2 day workshop - Dates: Mon 7th & Tues 8th July 2008

Create this gorgeous & practical needle case with timeless crazy patchwork. Manipulate fabrics to make great textures for backgrounds and embellishment. Enjoy the rhythmn of beautiful ribbon and hand embroidery playing with applique, laces, braids, beads, sequins, buttons & treasures.

Luxuriate in the fabrics of hand dyed silk, pure wool felt and vintage damask.

Kit Cost for workshop: $130. This does not include antique buttons.

Skill level: suitable to everyone with a knowledge of basic machine sewing for seaming the patches together.

The following workshops are available at the Colour Streams studio in Mullumbimby.

For felting workshops I only have space for 6 students. For embroidery I have space for 10 students.

LANDSCAPE FELT PANEL - 2 day work shop - Sat 16th & Sun 17th August 2008

This panel could be made into a cushion, wall panel or a beautiful tote bag for quilting days.
Day 1 you will learn how to prefelt shapes, felt in fibres and yarns and really play with colour in a painterly fashion.
Day 2 you will be appliqueing yarns & lace using different techniques and learning an array of hand embroidered flowers & basic beading.
Finished size of panel: 50x50cm
Kit cost: $120. 

 

This workshop could be run at the same time as the hand felt bag workshop below.

 

HAND FELTED BAGS - 2 day work shop -
Sat 16th & Sun 17th August 2008
During this workshop you will learn to make a functional and funky bag whilst experimenting with many textile mediums. Allproducts used are hand dyed & some painted to give your work that wonderous colour play. Day 1 You will make the bag foundation learning how to hand felt using pure Merino wool tops, silk tops & a range of fabrics & lace to add rich texture.
Day 2 You will embellish the bag with hand embroidery & beading finishing with machine assembly. Choice of three colours:
Gelati Tango - hot pinks/oranges/lime
Chocolat Meringue - black/brown/olive/russet
Blue Azure - Deep purples/blues
Bag size: 30cmX30cm

RUBYS' SECRETS - 2 day workshop - INQUIRIES WELCOME

In t his class you will make a unique evening purse enjoying the colour play of hand dyed silk fabrics, lace, threads & ribbons. Create a rich textural surface with layers of lace, braids & manipulated fabrics. Explore different embellishing techniques with hand embroidery including basic ribbon embroidery. Learn to make hand embellished cords and baubles.
Bag size: 22cmx20cm
Kit cost: $150.

HEART FELT CHATELAINE - 2 day workshop - INQUIRIES WELCOME

You will make a unique needle case & scissor keep out of hand dyed pure wool felt. Enjoy the colour play created when using hand dyed felt, lace, velvet, braids, silk ribbons & threads. Learn to create a rich textural surface with different layers of lace, appliqued velvet & braides embellishing it with hand embroidery and beading. To make it your very own, students will stitch in a signature photo of somone or something very important or inspirational in their life. My needle case has a photo of my mum, aunt & uncle.
